Assembly
The custom racks for the SK48v100 are shipped disassembled, however are quite easy to assemble with a #3 Phillips screwdriver. We have provided the following video to demonstrate the assembly process, but please note this video is the original 4-slot rack (now upgraded to 5-slot) and the video shows bolts with a hex-head which are now a standard oval-shaped head:
Installation
Location
The 5-slot racks are also not intended for excessive moisture. As an example, a basement with water running along the floor would be unsuitable for installing the battery rack, as this will lead to the bottom feet rusting out thus compromising the structural integrity of the rack.
Anchoring Requirements
After assembly, you must anchor the rack to the ground. Without anchors the rack and batteries within could topple over which could cause serious injury and damage not covered by warranty. Under no circumstances should the rack be installed on casters or wheels. When anchoring into concrete, we suggest a 3/8″ wedge anchor embedded at least 2 inches into the concrete. For anchoring into wood, we suggest at least a 3/8″ x 1 1/2″ lag bolt, preferably into a floor joist. Always follow the fastener’s direction for pre-drilling and torque spec. Anchor the rack before installing the batteries, as the batteries will block the access required for fastener installation otherwise.
Accessibility
Ensure sufficient working area is provided per local codes. A minimum of 30″ wide by 30″ deep clear working space free of obstructions is required.
- You must anchor the rack. Without anchors it could topple over.
- Never mount the rack on wheels.
Tips
- A few tips for assembly & Rack installation:
- Assemble with screws loose to allow for minor adjustment during rack assembly. When all parts of the frame are in place, set the rack on level ground and tighten all screws to spec. This will ensure you don’t end up with a teeter-tottering rack.
- Start the screws by hand to prevent cross-threading.
- Install the square nuts into the rack before installing the batteries, as the batteries block the accessibility needed to install the nuts.
- Use a torque screwdriver for tightening the screws to 4 N·m (44.2 in.-lbf) to prevent stripping
